Cure your emetophobia and Thrive, the research-backed self-help programme to overcome your fear of being sick. This book has been written at the request of numerous readers of my 'Thrive' book. I have helped hundreds of emetophobics over the last twenty five years, and supervised the helping of many hundreds of others. This programme is based on my Thrive Programme, but it has been redesigned and re-engineered for people with a specific fear of vomiting/fear of being sick. Including a discussion about all the major research studies into emetophobia, and including my own recent follow-up study of the last 30+ emetophobics I have helped. Where does emeto come from? Why are 90% of the sufferers women? Why is it such a huge phobia to have (probably the worst of all of the phobias)? Why do so many women suffer from it (about 5-8% of all women - to a greater or lesser extent) and yet they mostly keep it secret from their family and friends? Why does exposure therapy generally not work for em

Note: I'm seeing a lot of confusion about the price of the book. I bought this book for about $35 US dollars back in 2015. I believe since the book is out of stock Amazon's bot is just generating random prices. As for the review; If you're American, you will need to digest this book differently than you would most other "self help" books. Psychology doesn't work the same way overseas as it does in the U.S. You'll see what I mean. The author is stern. He's straight forward. He doesn't sugar coat. He doesn't give a shit about your beliefs. In fact that's what this book is all about, challenging your beliefs, limited or otherwise, and really picking yourself apart to discover how you operate and why you developed this phobia in the fist place. It's disciplinary. It makes you 100% responsible for your thoughts, feelings and actions. You can't allow yourself to puff up and get all offended when he curses, or mentions your parents may have raised you wrong, or your faith is pointless. If you allow those walls to go up while you're reading this book it will NOT help you.
This flu season I have read the entire book 2 times and still go over chapters here and there as I need a reminder. The chapters referring to self esteem and control are the most influential to me since that's apparently a spot where I needed the most help. I redo the exercises as needed to see how my results change over time. The book is engaing. He mentions in the first chapter that you MUST complete ALL the exercises throughout the book to see any benefit, and he's right. You have to dedicate yourself to the workbook. Keep a notebook/diary along with the workbook itself to keep track better.
Like I said before, I bought this book when it was in stock back in 2015. I was too lazy and scared to touch it until this year (2017) because I knew I couldn't dedicate myself. Since I started the book before the holidays (it took me about 4 weeks to complete the first time) I have seen a lot of improvement in my overall self esteem. I'm taking chances in areas of my life that I wouldn't have even dreamed of before. I've even got a promotion at work, which won't matter much since I'll be going back to college in the fall! Something else I would have never done. I've hit a couple rough spots, especially around the holidays when I didn't have the time to read through the chapters I needed or to "process my positives". It's taking some time to recover from all that.
I have definitely not "cured" myself of the phobia yet, but I feel like I'm on a straight path in that direction. No other book I found was written like this one and it is incredibly helpful to someone like me. I recommend to anyone suffering with emetophobia to seriously consider the purchase once the book is back in stock.

Cure Your Emetophobia Thrive The Researchedbacked Selfhelp Programme to Overcome Your Fear of Being Sick by Rob Kelly 20130320 Rob Kelly Charlotte Allen 8601418472100 Books Reviews
I have suffered from emetophobia since I was a little girl of 3. I am now 46 and over the years, I have searched for a way out of this self made prison- hoping that one day I would come across something that would really actually work. Well, a few weeks ago, my son (of which I waited to have until I was almost 40 because I was too scared) got really sick, instead of thinking that as the years progressed with him, I would become stronger- I broke and broke hard. That prompted me to get on line and start searching through my frustrated tears (as I had done countless times). There was just a small speck of hope that remained within me- and mostly for my son's sake at this point. But, that miraculous moment actually happened. I found Rob Kelly and his amazingly work and research that he has done to help so many people overcome- yes- overcome their emetophobia. I ordered the book and HE IS SIMPLY- SPOT ON. I came to find out that he knows me better than I know myself. I'm not completely through the program but I work daily on it page by page (along with my counselor) and I'm pleased to say - after all these years, I've finally found that the thing that is working.
I looked into this book after having intense bouts of nausea for the last 7 months after a course of antibiotics that pretty much destroyed my gut. I found that I had an increasing fear of nausea and vomiting to the point that I didn't want to buy meat, avoided eating out, and generally had increased anxiety anytime I started feeling nauseous.
So I bought the book. I have positives and negatives with regards to the book. It is great about looking at the psychological underpinnings of WHY fears and phobias exist. It uses examples from a lot of other fears and phobias (I wish it talked more about emetephobia throughout the book). It has specific exercises that help you to get over your emetephobia. It does require a substantial time requirement to perform all the activities in the book, but if you're like me, you're willing to invest any amount of time to get over the fear of vomiting.
So a sum of POSITIVES
- lots of engaging activities
- good psychological background to reasoning
- activities are self-empowering and increase happiness with yourself (e.g., listing 10 positive things that you helped make each day)
- summaries of key concepts covered in the chapter at the end of the chapter
- areas in book to write answers/thoughts
- surveys/quizzes to assess yourself
Sum of NEGATIVES
- lots of talk about other phobias/fears, less talk about emetophobia (granted, they do have similar psychological underpinnings)
- negative view of religion/spirituality. If you are religious, go into it realizing that the book will put down religion (although one chapter has a section with an example of a lady that was religious and was still able to overcome emeophobia). I am religious and found it offensive.
- quite a bit of swearing - again, offensive to some (like me). Said many times that we look through life with "sh** tinted glasses." Very unnecessary.
- didn't overcome my emetophobia, and I went through all of the activities in the book. Granted, I think the book is more helpful to someone that has a fear of vomiting more so than someone who is chronically nauseous. Although I have changed behaviors such as how quickly I put food back in the fridge and going out to eat, I still can't get my mind off nausea when I am nauseous.
So would I buy it again? Probably - it was an interesting read, but I didn't find it as life changing as some other folks note.
Note I'm seeing a lot of confusion about the price of the book. I bought this book for about $35 US dollars back in 2015. I believe since the book is out of stock 's bot is just generating random prices.
